The association of Christianity with colonialism has made some Africans skeptical of Western philosophies and ideologies that are contrary to African beliefs and practices especially, gender equality as practiced in the West. My faith and theological training DID NOT challenge this culture of abuse against women and girls because even churches around me were teaching patriarchy as God’s design and the way of faith!
In responding to the Shay-nay-nays of North America, I also began to be conscious of the havoc that the Westernization of Christianity has wreaked on people of non-Western cultures.
